Mako Sharks

Did you know that Mako Sharks are the fastest fish in the world? Well they are. Thes 1200 pound fish are very fast and they reach speeds upward of 30 miles per hour. And get this these fish are known to jump out of the water. 20 feet out of the water that is! The Mako Sharks are seperated into two sub-species called the longfinned mako and the shortfinned mako. Both of these species are on the endangered species list. Many people accidentely hook them on their fishing poles thinking that they are Blue Sharks and once they get them to the boat it has been known to get very dangerous. These Mako look a lot like the Great White Sharks and sometimes thought to be maneaters.

Thes sharks are very aggressive and has been known to viciously attack humans along the Mississipi. The Shortfinned Makos populate the Mississipi tributaries in great numbers. Even though they are on the endangered list that doesn't mean there isn't a lot left.

The female mako sharks have a great potential of reaching 1600 pounds, 400 pounds more than the males. That is a big differential! I can't even imagine what would happen if I got attack by a mako. Yet alone, I can't imagine what would happen if any shark attacked me.

The mako is the fastest, quickest fish in the ocean. I hope that we don't kill of this amazing predator. I can't believe that they are on the endangered species list
